Image licensing

Every photograph and graphic on this website, and on the other websites I own and operate, is original work. Mary Jane Howie made them. 1337376 B.C. Ltd. holds the copyright.
You can license one right now. Pick a tier, pay, and use the image. No quote, no call, no waiting on my reply.
Pick a license
Each price covers one image. Licensing three images means three purchases.
Standard
$250 CAD
One image, one business, one website. Every page on that site, plus your own social accounts. Yours for good.
Extended
$600 CAD
Everything in Standard, plus print, packaging, signs, paid ads, and anything you sell.
Already published
$750 CAD
The image is already live somewhere and was never licensed. This clears it, backdated, and closes the matter.
At checkout you will be asked which image you want. Paste the file name or the address of the page you found it on. Your receipt is your license. Keep it.
Editorial and community use is free
Blogs, news outlets, schools, nonprofits, and community groups can use my images at no charge. One condition. Credit me and link back.

Make the second line a working link. That is the whole deal. No email needed, no form to fill out.
This covers articles, newsletters, class projects, and community posts. It does not cover advertising, anything you sell, or a business website promoting a business. Those need a paid license.
What every paid license includes
- Worldwide use. No expiry date.
- Web and social use, at any size.
- Cropping and color adjustment to fit your layout.
- A receipt that records what you licensed and when.
What no license includes
- Reselling the image, or putting it into a stock library or template.
- Using it to train a machine learning model or build an image dataset.
- Removing or changing the credit information inside the file.
- Claiming you took the photograph.
- Use that suggests I endorse a product, a person, or a position.
Exclusive use
If you want an image and you want nobody else to have it, that starts at $2,500 CAD and depends on the photograph. Email hello@acornwebsites.com.
Several images, or a photo I have not taken yet
Businesses building a website often need eight or ten images, not one. That is a bundle, and it costs less per image than the list above. If you need photographs of a place, a product, or a property that I have not shot, that is a booked shoot. Email hello@acornwebsites.com and tell me what you are building.
I also build the websites those images end up on.
The credit is inside every file
Each image carries its ownership information in its own metadata. Open one in Preview, Photos, or any photo tool and you will find the creator, the copyright notice, the credit line, and a link to this page. That information travels with the file wherever it goes, including when someone downloads it and uploads it somewhere else.
Images on client websites
Some images on websites I built belong to the client, not to me. Ownership depends on the contract behind that project. If you are not sure who owns an image, ask me and I will point you to the right owner.
